The Benefits of Dual-Contained Piping Systems

Duo Pro dual-contained piping system

There are several options to choose from when considering piping systems in commercial buildings and industrial processing plants. One of those options is called a dual-contained piping system. For those who might be unaware, a dual-contained piping system is used to move fluids that are either highly corrosive or potentially extremely harmful to the environment. This piping system has several benefits that everyone should keep in mind.

Dual-Contained Piping Systems Provide Safety Benefits

A dual-contained piping system piping system is essentially a pipe within a pipe. The primary purpose of this type of system is to provide a “back-up” piping system in the event that the primary piping system was to develop a leak. Most dual containment piping systems utilize what is known as a leak detector.  Leak detectors are sensors that are placed in the space that exists between the inner and outer pipes.  These sensors detect if fluid exists between the two pipes thus indicating a leak.  Leak detectors then notify maintenance personnel that a leak exists and the general location of the leak.  Maintenance personnel can then schedule a repair. Because the leak is contained within the external pipe, employees and the environment are protected from exposure to potentially dangerous chemicals.

A Dual-Contained Piping System Can Lower Costs

Companies that use highly corrosive or caustic chemical as a part of their manufacturing process can benefit greatly from the use of dual contained piping systems. By preventing exposure to the chemicals and the resulting lost time injuries, companies can potentially reduce their workman’s compensation costs.
