Wastewater pump stations play a vital role in the nation’s water supply.

Wastewater pump stations play an important role in our country’s water supply. They purify and provide clean healthy water for our use. Without these stations, we would not have enough water to continue to exist. We depend on the recycling of our wastewater supply to survive.

Wastewater pump stations move the water through a series of pipes and pump stations to the treatment plants to be cleaned and purified. At the treatment plant the water goes through a three step cleaning process. The first step is to remove the solids and oil from the water. The water is pumped into a tank and the solids sink to the bottom of the tank. The water then gets moved for the second step which is to remove all the biological matter. The water is then disinfected during the third step.

When the water completes the three step process and is clean and purified it is pumped back into the rivers, and various other bodies of water. Without these pump stations and treatment stations we would run out of our clean water supply.

Sewage lift pump stations utilize remote monitoring to help prevent maintenance hassles and keep the operator well informed.

Sewage lift stations are vital in the process of purifying wastewater and supplying the community with clean water. A sewage lift station pumps raw sewage and wastewater to the wastewater treatment plant. The wastewater treatment plant processes the wastewater by removing the solids. The processed wastewater (effluent) can be further treated and returned to the water system or it can be land applied through a wastewater spray field. To monitor the entire process of purifying the water remote monitoring is used.

Two of the major benefits to using a remote monitoring system are:

1. Warning of maintenance issues: The remote monitoring system tracks pump warnings on the temperature or other conditions. The remote monitoring system will alert the operator of conditions that may cause maintenance issues.
2. Keeps the operator informed of the conditions: The operator will receive all the updates on the internet which include the running time, water pressure and power status. They can monitor the lift station at all times and always know the water pressure and levels.

  William Player Law, Jr.,94, of Lexington, SC, died peacefully on December 22, 2011 at the Carroll Campbell Place.

 

  A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, December 26th, at 3 PM at the Chapel of the Presbyterian Home, DaVega Dr, Lexington, SC. The family will receive guests in the chapel one hour before the service.

  William Player Law, Jr.,94, of Lexington, SC, died peacefully on December 22, 2011 at the Carroll Campbell Place.  Born in Darlington, SC on August 16, 1917, he graduated from St John’s High School and then from Clemson College in 1938 where he was a member of the agricultural honorary society (Alpha Zeta) and was captain of the rifle team.

 

  After graduation, he moved to Spartanburg, SC where he met and married Dorothy Foster.  As a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army in WWII, he served as a machine gun platoon leader with the 3rd Division in Italy and Southern France.

 

  At the age of 53, Bill quit a steady paying job and, with his wife Dot, started W.P. Law, Inc., an irrigation supply company in Lexington, SC.  What started as a small husband and wife shop off Corley Mill Road grew to be a company with 7 branches and over 100 employees.

 

  He is survived by his younger brother, James B. Law and sister, Dorothy Law Martin, both of Darlington; three sons, William P., III (Addie) of Burke, VA; Philip E.(Karen), and Thomas F.(Susan) all of Lexington; eight grandchildren, Warren Law, Rincon, GA; Joseph Law, Centralia, WA, Cami Buddenhagen, Gainesville, VA, Jessica, Justin and Seth Law, all of Lexington; MacKenzie and Burgess Bub, both of New York City; seven great-grandchildren; and a large number of nieces, nephews, and other kin.

 

  He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy F. Law; his parents, William P. and Dorothy E. Law; two brothers, David E. and Augustus Law, and a sister, Louise Law Wilson.

Water quality is one of the most important factors when considering an irrigation system.  Poor water quality can be attributed to several factors.  Among them are organic and inorganic solids.  These solids may be suspended or dissolved or a combination of both.  The primary problem caused by these contaminates is plugging or clogging of orifices, particularly in drip or micro irrigation systems.  The solution to this problem is the installation of a water filtration system.

There are several options to choose from when considering a water filtration system for use with an irrigation system.  The type of water filtration system you chose is dependant on your water source and initial water quality.  The three filtration methods commonly used with irrigation systems are screen filters, disc filters and sand media filters.  Screen filters, as their name implies, use a screen to collect contaminates.  The screens are usually made of a stainless steel mesh, but are also available in plastic as well. Disc filter use a series of discs with grooves that are stacked and compressed on a spine, with the grooves on each disc running opposite the adjacent disc.  As the water moves through the disc system, contaminates are trapped and removed.  Sand media filters use a bed of sand to collect contaminants.  Sand media filters are cleaned by backwashing.  Backwashing forces clean water back through the media bed thereby dislodging the contaminants and piping them to waste.

To function properly, all filtration systems need to be cleaned frequently.  The poorer the water quality the more often the filter element will need to be cleaned.  Automating the cleaning process is the best way to ensure that it is done when needed.  Most automated filter cleaning processes use differential pressure to determine when the filter is dirty and requires cleaning.

Each water filtration method has its pros and cons and the best system for any specific situation depends on a variety of factors, including the initial water quality and the use of the water after filtration.  Keep in mind that filtration is a critical component of any drip or micro irrigation system and is not the place to skimp on costs.  Using a poorly designed or undersized filtration system can render you irrigation system useless if it allows plugging or clogging of emitters.

Pump stations, or pumping stations, are used for different infrastructure systems typically in the industrial arena to pump liquids from one location to another.
